Alisa: Recover is a song dedicated to my late mother, who passed away from breast cancer when I was seven - I've carried this grief my whole life. My parents fled the war in Laos and came to New Zealand as refugees, where I was born. It saddens me to think that my Mum wasn't able to see her five children grow up with the kinds of opportunities she never had. I feel her absence more than ever as I reach certain milestones in my life, like buying my first home I doubt she imagined her Laos daughter fronting an indie rock band. There have been moments where I've needed her: the grief that only a mother can nurse - my first real heartbreak. Her untimely death has left a void I feel I will never fill.
The band currently consists of Alisa Xayalith vocals, keyboards , and Thom Powers vocals, guitars. Since , the band has been based in Los Angeles. Xayalith born is the daughter of Laotian refugees, and was born in Auckland, and raised together with a younger brother. Powers and Xayalith began performing live with Ben Knapp and Jordan Clark on bass and drums respectively, while Aaron Short became a performing member of the group.
