PARIS, France -- A French pole vaulting champion ran naked with his pole through the streets of Paris and posted the video on the Internet, hoping to draw attention to his quest for a new sponsorship deal. Romain Mesnil, who won a silver medal at the Athletics World Championships in Osaka, was sponsored by Nike but says his contract expired last year and was not renewed. It's the crisis," he wrote on his Web site. Many athletes have reported difficulties obtaining corporate sponsorship as companies cut costs because of the global economic downturn. In his video, Mesnil runs with his pole as if preparing for a vault at tourist spots like Montmartre and the Pont des Arts across the River Seine. A black square has been added to the footage to cover his groin area. The video has succeeded in drawing attention to Mesnil's plight, at least in France.
But when Bisk was asked to shed both her clothes and her inhibitions so she could be painted gold from head to toe for a photoshoot, even she felt first-time jitters. Bisk has reinvented herself as an Instagram star, yoga instructor and brand ambassador for activewear. But any hesitancy Bisk may have had were shed on the day of the shoot, with photographer Stefan Gosatti describing the former elite athlete as a true professional. Bisk is active on Instagram where she has more than , followers. She posts photos of yoga poses as well as pictures of fruit.
After the buzz created by the video of his naked jog with his pole through the capital, posted on his personal website www. We're doing this and we will see what happens. In the video the pole vaulter is seen running along Parisian tourist spots, such as Montmartre and across the River Seine, with his modesty preserved by a black box superimposed upon his naked body. As well as seeking a sponsor Mesnil is hoping to raise money to for two charities — one to look after children ill in hospital and the other for research into brain tumours. Mesnil, 31, won silver at the world championship in Osaka two years ago, following a second place at the previous year's European Championship in Gothenburg.
